15th Joint Institutional Board Meeting of SJTU-ParisTech Elite Institute of Technology was held

On March 30th 2019, the SJTU-Paris Tech Elite Institute of Technology (hereinafter referred to as SPEIT) held its 15th Joint Institutional Board Meeting in Shanghai. The meeting was attended by Chairman of Shanghai Jiao Tong University (hereinafter referred to as SJTU) Mr. JIANG Sixian, President and Vice Chairman of SJTU Mr. LIN Zhongqin, and Standing Committee Member of the CPC SJTU Committee and Vice President of SJTU Ms. XU Xuemin from the Chinese side, and President of ENSTA ParisTech Ms. Elisabeth CREPON, President of Mines ParisTech Mr. Vincent LAFLECHE, President of École Polytechnique Mr. Eric LABAYE, and President of Telecom ParisTech Mr. Yves POILANE from the ParisTech side, as well as Mr. François MARION from Valeo (China) and Mr. Florian FECHE from Safran as two representatives.

The Chinese Dean of SPEIT Mr. LI Shaoyuan, the French Dean of SPEIT Mr. Frédéric TOUMAZET, Secretary of Party General Branch and Vice Dean Mr. LIU Zenglu, and Vice Dean of SPEIT Mr. LU Jialiang, elaborated on the employment of the first class of graduates of SPEIT, the admissions, teaching affairs, budget execution, international communication, internship programmes, and business cooperation, etc. The development of SPEIT since its founding in 2012 was reviewed at the meeting, where it’s believed that SPEIT made effective outcomes in innovative integration of Chinese and French engineering education models and developed a unique talent development model. The graduates who chose to work received good offers, many of whom opted to devote themselves to some of China’s key industries out of their patriotism, while those who decided to go on further studies were admitted to world-renowned academies/universities, a proof that fruitful results were borne in SPEIT talent development. While allowing companies access to SPEIT as part of the lessons it learnt from French education, SPEIT pioneered a model of school-business joint education to meet the government requirement of developing “New Engineering Disciplines”, offering great experience to China’s higher engineering education reform. The admissions, construction of new buildings, annual budget, and other important matters were also discussed at the meeting.

Ms. Elisabeth CREPON said that the achievements couldn’t be made without the strong support of SJTU and extended gratitude to SJTU on behalf of the French side, which she said would continue to contribute to the development of SPEIT and help SJTU attract more outstanding international students.

Mr. LIN Zhongqin said that SPEIT has made great practices in engineering education and its young students were all passionate about engineering. He hoped that SPEIT would continue to develop engineering talents of international vision and relentlessly innovate so as to offer valuable experience to China’s engineering education reform.

Mr. JIANG Sixian thanked the French side for its great attention and support to SPEIT in the past years, expressed his delight to see the good prospects of the graduates, and believed SPEIT would admit even more excellent students as it gets more prominent.

The meeting was also attended by Vice-Provost of SJTU Ms. WU Jingyi, Dean of Graduate School of SJTU Mr. WANG Yaguang, Education Consul of the Consulate General of France in Shanghai Mr. Fabien CHAREIX, and Director of ParisTech in China Mr. Sylvain FERRARI.
