The 16th joint institutional board meeting of the SJTU-ParisTech Elite Institute of Technology (hereinafter referred to as the SPEIT) was held at Telecom Paris on 13th December 2019. SPEIT President and Deputy Party Secretary Mr. LIN Zhongqin chaired the meeting in Paris, which was attended by President of ENSTA Paris Ms. Elisabeth CREPON, Chairman of the Board of Ecole Polytechnique and Institut Polytechnique de Paris Mr. Eric LABAYE, President of MINES ParisTech Mr. Vincent LAFLECHE, and President of Télécom Paris Mr. Nicolas GLADY. Party Secretary of SJTU Mr. JIANG Sixian, Standing Committee Members and Vice Presidents of SJTU Mr. HUANG Zhen and Mr. XU Xuemin, representative of Valeo China Mr. Fran?ois MARION, and representative of SAFRAN China Mr. Olivier DUBROEUCQ attended the meeting through video at the new Administration Building of SJTU.
Chinese Dean of SPEIT Mr. LI Shaoyuan, French Dean of SPEIT Mr. Frédéric TOUMAZET, Secretary of Party General Branch of SPEIT and Vice Dean of SPEIT Mr. LIU Zenglu, and Vice Dean of SPEIT Mr. LU Jialiang made presentations on the overall progress of SPEIT that included the graduation of the first class of SPEIT, its academic development system reform, its international exchanges and cooperation, its cooperation with the business community, admissions of the Class of 2019, budget execution, and faculty. Both sides believed that the year 2019 was an eventful year for SPEIT as it had completed the first cycle of academic development of 6.5 years, earned the social and market recognition of its performance in running the institute with satisfying results, reached the record-high level of admissions, published the first French textbooks of mathematics and physics, and responded to China‘s Belt and Road Initiative by confirming the intention of student exchanges with University of Hassan II in Morocco as a country on the Belt and Road by bringing into play the advantages of Chinese-French cooperation. It’s believed at the meeting that SPEIT had put in place a sophisticated and complete system for developing engineers through Chinese and French cooperation, gained much experience in running the institute, and demonstrated it via multiple channels with great spillover effect. The reform of higher education in France was touched upon at the meeting, and it‘s reported that four French schools in cooperation with SPEIT had been categorized into different cooperation alliances. Following discussions, the two sides decided to enhance bilateral cooperation as always and work together on various measures in response to any changes. The appointment of Mr. LI Yi as the new Vice Party Secretary of SPEIT was also introduced at the meeting.
Mr. LIN Zhongqin expressed his delight on the high appraisal given to the excellent students of SPEIT as a result of the joint endeavours made by the Chinese and French sides and his hope that the two sides could implement the specific proposals laid out at the meeting to ensure the high-level standard of running SPEIT.
Ms. Elisabeth CREPON extended her gratitude to all the leaders and corporate representatives present at the meeting and expressed her hope that everyone could build on the remarkable achievements made by SPEIT to continue to work for the institute and deliver even better outcomes in 2020.
Then, SJTU signed with its four French founding partners the Agreement of Seed Fund Cooperation between Shanghai Jiaotong University and ENSTA Paris, Ecole Polytechnique and Institut Polytechnique de Paris, MINES ParisTech, and Télécom Paris, as a token of further bilateral cooperation in scientific research.
