A recap of undergraduate admission counseling and the campus day

Do you regret missing the annual campus day in Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU)? Never mind. We’ll give you a recap of some of the great takeaways from the event to echo the online messages left by our students and their parents encouraging us to do so.

On the afternoon of June 13th, 2020, the Chinese Dean of SPEIT Mr. LI Shaoyuan delivered a speech about the admissions of SPEIT titled “Nurturing outstanding talents today for industry elites tomorrow”. At 14:30, SPEIT held an online campus day event at its French culture activity center, with a lot of highlights, attracting many students and their parents to watch it online. The event was hosted by Deputy Dean of SPEIT Mr. LU Jialiang, and attended by its French Dean Mr. Frédéric TOUMAZET, its Secretary of Party General Branch Mr. LIU Zenglu, and members of its faculty.

Versatility and speciality with a focus on mathematics and physics: an official introduction to SPEIT was presented in a video. Head of SPEIT’s physics and chemistry teaching team Professor Arnaud MARTIN and his team demonstrated the characteristics of their teaching in the foundational phase. They introduced the diversified teaching forms of SPEIT based on the curriculum design and evaluation of the basic physics curriculum, which would help students improve the abilities in systems thinking, interdisciplinary thinking, and theory-practice connection. Then students majoring in information engineering, mechanical engineering, and energy and power engineering displayed their innovative scientific outcomes.

Chinese-French cooperation to deliver elite education: French Dean of SPEIT Mr. Frédéric TOUMAZET made a welcome speech on behalf of the partners of SPEIT, where he said that the event offered an opportunity for all the outstanding students and their parents to gain a better understanding of SPEIT and that China and France made concerted efforts to provide the students with the world-class engineering education. He believed the students would obtain diploma, improve abilities, and have a broader vision at SPEIT and anticipated to meet with them at SPEIT in the new term.

Mr. LIU Zenglu introduced the advantages of academic development with French engineering education and what SPEIT achieved in this regard based on his own working experience in the early years of his career.

Forging ahead with determination and lessons: Deputy Dean of SPEIT Mr. LU Jialiang invited some students and graduates online to share their experience of getting to know SPEIT and studying and growing up at SPEIT. “SPEIT is like a great stage, where students have a lot of opportunities to display themselves,” said ZHAO Yuyang, a student entering the postgraduate studies in 2020 who was on a dual degree programme at École Polytechnique. She said that the French engineering education not only taught her diverse cultures and inclusiveness but how to express herself and communicate in an international context and finally achieve innovation and win-win results.

In the Q&A part, students and their parents were active in proposing questions, and Mr. LU gave detailed answers to some of the questions that concerned them most, including the outlook on SPEIT’s development, discipline establishment, academic development, employment, scholarship, allowance, and tuition, and international teaching.

The event was creatively organized with good interactions and covered a wide range of topics, which received much acclaim from the students and their parents. We hereby extend our best wishes for high school students to succeed in the upcoming National College Entrance Examination and look forward to meeting you at SPEIT this autumn!
