At the SJTU Paris Elite Institute of Technology (SPEIT), a group of students have made steady progress in mathematical and physical studies, then achieved remarkable breakthroughs in scientific research. For example, Huang Siyuan, a second-year master's student at SPEIT, has consecutively published four papers as the first author in top artificial intelligence conferences such as NeurIPS 2023 and NeurIPS 2024. Graduated from Shanghai High School in 2019, Huang Siyuan entered SPEIT for integrated bachelor-master studies and once pursued a double degree at École Polytechnique. Currently, he is part of the LUMIA team at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, under the supervision of Associate Professor Lin Zhouhan from the School of Artificial Intelligence, and interning at the Seed Department of ByteDance. In this interview, Huang Siyuan shares the stories behind his academic papers.

On May 25, 2025, Lei Xuanwu, a first-year student from SPEIT, shone at the 12th Shanghai Science Popularization Contest hosted by the Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Commission. With her presentation "The Scientific Marvel of Neutrons," she emerged victorious among 1,212 citywide contestants, claiming the Shanghai First Prize and the title of "2025 Shanghai Top 10 Science Communicator."

In this issue, let’s delve into the story of Hu Yongyi, an outstanding 2024 graduate of Université Jiao Tong de Shanghai, and hear about his 6.5-year journey of growth.

From Chongqing, Feng Ziye entered SPEIT at Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 2022 after graduating from Chongqing Foreign Language School. He is currently a sophomore, majoring in French and minoring in Energy and Power Engineering.

He holds a C2 certificate in French, an N1 certificate in Japanese, is at B1 level in Spanish, is proficient in artificial intelligence and data analysis, achieved top marks at a leading French engineering school, ranks in the top 2% at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, organized Chinese character classes at a French university, and set up Sino-French cultural experience activities for the European Times. He stood out among three thousand resumes to join the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).

Born in 1999 in Paris, France, Xiong Yuanke was raised in a Chinese family, and his parents' relaxed and liberal upbringing has cultivated his independent, uninhibited and willing to try new things. In 2017, Xiong Yuanke passed the French college entrance examination with a "Mention Très Bien" rating after layers of written tests and interviews, and entered the Institut d'Ingénieurs d'Excellence in Paris. Xiong Yuanke's family has been studying in France since the early 1900s and has gradually settled there. His family members include Xiong Qinglai, a famous mathematician, and Xiong Youde, a materials scientist and recipient of the French National Order of Merit. Being inspired by his family's scientific research atmosphere, he has always wanted to "do something" in scientific research since he entered the university.
