In order to further promote research cooperation in artificial intelligence models and algorithms, and attract more outstanding students to intern at Huawei's Paris Research Center, on the afternoon of May 14th, Rui Xianglin, Director of Huawei's Lagrange Mathematical Computing Center, Jun Wang, Professor at University College London and Chief Scientist at Huawei London Research Institute, along with Hou Tianqi, Senior Engineer at Huawei's 9 Labs, and Zhang Weinan, Associate Professor at the School of Electronic Information and Electrical Engineering, visited our school for exchange and discussions.
Zhong Shengyi, Vice-Dean of SPEIT, Li Junyan, Deputy Director of the Academic Affairs Office, and Jin Xiaoqing, Deputy Vice-Director, as well as Ji Hongjun, Associate Professor of Mathematics and Computer Science, welcomed the guests and participated in the discussions.
Zhong Shengyi first introduced the internationalized and elite engineer education model of the Sino-French College, as well as the deep cooperation with four top engineering schools in France. She also highlighted the recent cooperation between the school and Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. in school development, student internships, and teacher research. Subsequently, Rui Xianglin introduced the basic situation of Huawei's Lagrange Mathematical Computing Center, research projects, cooperation and education models, etc. Professor Jun Wang introduced the functions and operation mode of Huawei's Computing Systems Theory and Technology Committee (CSTT), demonstrating Huawei's strength in scientific research innovation and technological application.
During the meeting, Huawei experts highly appreciated the school's internationalized and open engineer education model. They mentioned that Wang Fusang and Li Tianyu, two students of the Sino-French College who pursued a dual degree in France from February to August 2023, interned at Huawei's Paris Research Center; previously, they participated in the 2022 Huawei European Challenge and their team won the championship. Both students demonstrated solid mathematical skills, outstanding learning ability, excellent communication skills, and a passionate enthusiasm for technological innovation, leaving a very deep impression.
Huawei experts also mentioned that Huawei's Lagrange Mathematical Computing Center focuses on cutting-edge research in mathematics and computing, gathering many outstanding talents in mathematical fields, including several Fields Medal winners, while the Sino-French College has adopted the French engineer education model, placing strong emphasis on fundamental education in mathematics and sciences. They hope to cooperate more with the school's teachers in mathematical theory and encourage more students to intern at Huawei's Lagrange Research Institute and pursue corporate doctorates.
The SPEIT expressed heartfelt gratitude for Huawei experts' recognition. Participants mentioned that Wang Fusang and Li Tianyu, both outstanding graduates of the 2024 class, will soon go to Huawei's Paris Research Center to pursue doctorates. Wang Fusang will go to Huawei's Paris Research Center for doctoral research, while Li Tianyu plans to pursue doctoral studies at a French university, thanking Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. for providing students with a broad platform for growth and development.
The school expressed great interest in the cooperation intentions presented by Huawei experts, stating that in the future, both parties could deepen and diversify cooperation in talent training, student exchanges, research projects, etc., to promote deeper integration of educational chains, talent chains, industrial chains, and innovation chains, and collaborate to create a characteristic talent training model, training more internationally competitive high-level talents, and actively contributing to the promotion of global scientific progress and social development.
