On June 12, 2024, the first and second phases of the Curriculum Analysis and Continuous Improvement Project at SPEIT were successfully completed. Based on research projects proposed for courses such as "Introduction to Quantum Mechanics," "Engineer Culture," and "Liquid Phase Physical Chemistry," project leaders Shao Lingxuan, Zhang Lihui, and Xia Meng presented their final reports. They thoroughly reviewed the difficulties and challenges in the teaching process and critically examined key issues affecting educational reform and development at the institute. Over the two-year implementation period, the project aimed for innovation and breakthroughs.
Shao Lingxuan focused on the project "Development of Quantum Mechanics Course for Engineering Students," addressing course characteristics, student learning situations, and difficulties through restructuring teaching content, integrating ideological and political education into the curriculum, and introducing quantum experiments. The introduction of quantum experiments allowed students to directly observe and measure phenomena, validating theories and deepening their understanding of concepts. Implementing collaborative learning methods empowered students as active participants, fostering interaction between peers and between students and teachers, thereby enhancing learning experiences and outcomes. The teaching reforms received positive feedback from students and demonstrated significant improvements.
Zhang Lihui's "Engineer Culture" course design aimed to reshape the course comprehensively from content, format, to assessment methods, enhancing the internal logic and systematic nature of the course. By emphasizing engineering cultural attributes and values, the course was transformed into a distinctive humanities management course integrating both Chinese and French characteristics.
Under the project "Innovation and Exploration of Teaching Methods in Mechanical and Energy Engineering under the Background of New Engineering Disciplines: Liquid Phase Physical Chemistry," Xia Meng conducted innovative course design and teaching method exploration. Based on formative assessment mechanisms, the project increased the weight of process evaluations in final grades and effectively introduced various assessment methods such as project reports, case studies, and group discussions. Students exhibited more proactive and engaged performance throughout the course.
During the group discussion session, teachers engaged in lively discussions regarding future course development priorities and continuous optimization directions. Topics included how to address student competency gaps through course design, cultivating stronger public speaking abilities among students, deepening school-enterprise cooperation under constrained conditions, considering student involvement in course development, and exploring broader implementation possibilities for distinctive Sino-French institute educational reform projects. Deep exchanges stimulated intellectual vitality and yielded profound insights. As one of the institute's nurturing projects, the Curriculum Analysis and Continuous Improvement Project will continue to evolve, supporting teacher growth and contributing to the development of talents with strong social responsibility and innovative spirit.
