To thoroughly learn and implement the spirit of the National Education Conference, and to fulfill the mentors' responsibility to cultivate students with moral integrity, and build a high-level team of mentors, the SJTU Paris Elite Institute of Technology held the 2024 Annual Mentor Training and Exchange Session on November 20th. Chen Cailian, Secretary of the Party Committee, Lu Jialiang, Vice President and Coordinator of Information Engineering major, Zhong Shengyi, Vice President and Coordinator of Mechanic Engineering major, and Wei Guanghua, Director of the Student Science and Innovation Center and Coordinator of Energy and Power Engineering major, along with nearly 60 mentors from the college's mentor pool, newly appointed mentors, and several administrative staff participated.
Secretary Chen Cailian delivered the opening speech. She warmly welcomed and thanked all the participating mentors. She mentioned that the SJTU Paris Elite Institute of Technology, drawing on the French engineering training model and integrating innovation, has formed a unique 6.5-year undergraduate and graduate integrated training model. This training model emphasizes mathematical foundations, internships, humanities, and an international perspective, making it more complex and diverse than traditional colleges. She stated that the mentors in the pool come from various colleges, and as the first responsible persons for student training, their real-time communication with the SJTU Paris Elite Institute of Technology is particularly crucial. She hopes that all mentors fully understand the college's unique training model and plan for student training well; she also expects to discuss with the mentors how to further optimize the integration of school-enterprise collaboration, interdisciplinary intersection, and internationalization in the education model.
Vice President Lu Jialiang and Vice President Zhong Shengyi provided detailed introductions to the college's talent training model, process management, graduation requirements, key attention points at various times, promotion and management methods for student academic achievements, and ongoing teaching reform plans. They also clarified the responsibilities and mechanisms of mentors' work. In addition, they specially emphasized laboratory safety work, reminding mentors to enhance safety awareness, conduct safety training, and assess the safety of experimental projects to build a strong safety line.
In the discussion session, the atmosphere was very enthusiastic, with mentors actively speaking out and sharing their experiences in guiding students from SPEIT. Mentors generally gave high praise to the students' mathematical foundations, learning abilities, and overall qualities. They also had in-depth discussions on topics such as the mentor-student relationship under the international education model, guidance strategies during students' study abroad, and personalized training needs of students, offering many thoughts and suggestions for the college's future talent training work.
Over the twelve years of operation, the SJTU Paris Elite Institute of Technology has established a teacher system composed of internal mentors, on-campus mentors, mentors from French partner schools, and corporate mentors. Among them, on-campus mentors play an important role in guiding students' scientific research. The college regularly organizes mentor exchange and training activities every year, continuously improving the mentor training mechanism, standardizing mentor management, and smoothing communication channels to form a joint effort in educating students and providing a solid guarantee for training international compound engineering talents!
