On February 14th, SJTU Paris Elite Institute of Technology held the meeting on the cultivation of talents, which was aimed at reviewing and summarizing the past work and planning the strategy of development in the next five years. All leaders, Chinese teachers and heads of departments attended the meeting. The meeting was presided over by Chen Cailian.
Chen Cailian emphasized that this meeting was aimed at discussing the strategic positioning and direction of development in the rapidly changing international context. She pointed out that SPEIT is the highest level of cooperation between China and France in the field of higher education, and it is important to clarify the development vision and formulate practical roadmap.
Faculty Development
The meeting deeply analyzed the situation and challenges of the past faculty construction, and put forward that talents are the core resources for SPEIT to achieve greater development, it is essential to introduce more young talents, recruit high-level talents globally, build innovative teams, boldly reform the talent evaluation system, strengthen talent incentives, and create a better environment for the development of talents.
Research and University-Enterprise Cooperation
In the future, SPEIT will fully complete the transformation from a teaching-based platform to one that emphasizes both teaching and research. Firstly, it is important to take scientific research development as the driving force to create an organized university-enterprise cooperation paradigm, and on the basis of consolidating the cooperation with French enterprises, SPEIT will actively expand the strategic cooperation with domestic enterprises in scientific research. Secondly, SPEIT will take the opportunity of the construction of China-France Building to promote the construction of international joint and university-enterprise scientific research platforms. Thirdly, SPEIT will focus on condensing scientific research directions and implement precise support programs for young teachers.
Talent Cultivation
The meeting focused on the all-round integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into the talent cultivation model, the positioning and reform conception of cross-language engineering talent cultivation, and the development plan of doctoral programs. It is necessary to continue to integrate the advantages of Chinese and French engineering education, fully implement the new talent cultivation reform program and create an AI-enabled nurturing model.
International Cooperation and Exchange
It is important to consolidate the existing cooperation foundation with Frence, jointly develop new cooperation projects; actively expand partners globally; expand the channels of talent delivery to international organizations; and provide more support to further enhance the international reputation of Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
Student Work
With the goal of “cultivating outstanding engineers with global competence”, SPEIT will build a whole chain of student work system. Specific measures include the establishment of an organized student work system, the construction of a stage-by-stage employment training system, the improvement of the mental health support system, and the establishment of global competence cultivation courses, which are aimed at improving the comprehensive quality of students and assisting their growth and development.
Enrollment and Publicity work
SPEIT is united in the enrollment and publicity work, and will integrate online and offline multiple channels to display professional characteristics, campus culture, training effectiveness and further enhance SPEIT’s influence and attractiveness.
Chen Cailian and Zhang Wenming highly affirmed a series of remarkable achievements in the past. They pointed out that in the face of the complex changes in the external environment and multiple challenges to internal development, all the teachers and students have the courage to innovate, and have achieved remarkable results, at the same time, we must be deeply aware of the current challenges and opportunities.
At the same time, the construction of faculty should be the core strategy for the development of the college to create a faculty with international competitiveness. Scientific research should realize breakthrough improvement, condense key directions, and promote both the quantity and quality. School-enterprise cooperation, as the core characteristic work of the college, needs to further deepen the strategic cooperation with enterprises.
