In July, the Xuesen Summer Camp and the Dengfeng Summer Camp organized by SPEIT recently came to a successful conclusion.
The camp attracted nearly 150 outstanding high school students from all over China. During the week from July 13th to 18th, the campers broadened their horizons and enhanced their abilities through a series of rich courses and activities, and also gained precious friendships and unforgettable memories.

Camp Check-in
From July 13th to 14th, campers arrived at SJTU campus one after another, embarking on this journey of exploration with the expectation of college life. At the check-in site, teaching assistants enthusiastically assisted students in receiving their uniforms and gift bags.

During the opening ceremony, representatives from SJTU and SPEIT delivered speeches, encouraging students to cherish the opportunity, explore bravely, and start a journey of growth. The ice-breaking game quickly drew students closer to each other.

Associate Professor Gong Helin presided over the opening ceremony of the Summit Camp and delivered a speech.

SUMMER

02
Growing up in the exploration
and practice of science and technology
1
Xuesen Summer Camp
Xuesen Summer Camp carefully designed a rich engineering practice course to ignite students' love for science and technology.
Shi Qiwei from SPEIT taught aerodynamics, revealing the scientific secrets behind flying machines; Ji Hongjun led students into the world of differential equations; and Qiu Siqi brought an introductory course on Python programming to let students experience the fun of hands-on programming.

2
Dengfeng Summer Camp
At the Dengfeng summer camp, Gong Helin from SPEIT guided students to gain a deeper understanding of “HualongⅠ”, explaining the technology of the efficient utilization of clean energy; Director Qiang Shenglong from NPIC shared a special report on nuclear energy industry software and digital twins, which allowed students to understand the latest progress in the development of the nuclear energy industry; Professor Xiao Dunhui from Tongji University introduced the basic principles of AI in detail, building a basic framework of AI knowledge for students; Cheng Sibao from École nationale des ponts et chaussées demonstrated, through online lectures, the practical applications of machine learning and data assimilation in the fields of air quality monitoring and geoscientific research, and so on.
03
Growing in an intercultural atmosphere
Intercultural literacy is the core competency of future talents. In order to cultivate students' global vision and cross-cultural communication skills, the summer camp has carefully set up language and culture courses for students to explore and grow in different cultural contexts.

Du Yan from the School of Foreign Languages of SJTU brought the French course. In the class, everyone felt the rhythm of the language in French pronunciation exercises, mastered basic expressions through situational dialogues with common vocabulary, and even appreciated the richness and diversity of French culture in professor’s wonderful interpretation of French art, cuisine, festivals and other cultural elements.

Professor Deng Yihang from Shanghai International Studies University held a profound and interesting workshop on intercultural communication with the theme of “Becoming an Intercultural Intermediary”.
Professor Deng Yihang transformed abstract cross-cultural communication theories into practical wisdom, allowing students to quickly grasp the core logic of communication in different cultural contexts. In the group discussion, she guided the students to choose their own values and advocate for them. The students gradually learned to jump out of the inherent thinking framework and understand the cultural roots behind different views from other people's perspectives.

04
Technology and Humanities Resonate Together
Shi Wen from SPEIT brought an immersive French culture course to the students. She talked about the development of French painting and guided the students to appreciate the works of the Impressionist masters from the multi-dimensional perspectives of art, history and technology. The students gradually realized that Impressionism's capture of light echoes the exploration of optics in the field of science, where art and science converge, showing the unique charm of interdisciplinary integration.
Afterwards, the students went to the “Treasures of the Musée d'Orsay” exhibition at the Pudong Art Museum. They analyzed the exhibits in groups and had a lot of profound thoughts: “AI restoration of endangered works of art needs to preserve historical traces in order to respect humanistic memory”, “Robot research and development should be infused with emotional interaction design to meet the social needs of human beings”, and so on.
05
Into the cutting-edge laboratories
In order to help students clarify their professional direction and understand the frontiers of science and technology, SPEIT organized visits to cutting-edge laboratories and enterprises.
1
Laboratory
In the Intelligent Wireless Network and Cooperative Control Laboratory, Assistant Researcher Zhang Jinglong explained in detail the intelligent and connected equipment and industrial applications, and enabled students to visualize the Industrial Internet of Things through real-time data and precision instruments.

2
Student Innovation Center
In the Student Innovation Center, SPEIT alumnus Feng Yuchin led the campers to visit workshops and drone projects, which inspired the students' interest in exploration and enthusiasm for practice.

3
Meta Robotics Institute
At the Meta Robotics Institute, Yu Tao, a SPEIT alumnus, shared the latest research results in the field of robotics and demonstrated robotic technologies such as medical care and inspection.

4
Huawei Cloud HCSD Campus Open Class
In the Huawei Cloud HCSD Campus Open Class, Manager Liu Xuedong explained the development history of Huawei Cloud and the “Unified Developer Ecology” program with the help of practical cases, and explained cloud computing technology and its applications. This technology exploration trip not only helped students understand their professional orientation, but also inspired their confidence in pursuing their technology dreams.

Full of Harvests, Toward a New Journey
On July 19th, the summer camp was officially closed. Shi Qiwei, Ji Hongjun, and Shi Wen, as representatives, awarded certificates of honor to the outstanding students and teams of Xuesen Summer Camp.

Jiang Fengguang and Gong Helin summarized the Dengfeng Summer Camp. Student Zhang Shitong spoke at the closing ceremony as the representative of Xuesen Summer Camp. He said that during the six days, he had made deep friendship and gained great knowledge. He hoped that in the future, he could gather with his friends and teachers again at SJTU to explore a broader world and unknown possibilities.

- END-
This summer at SPEIT, there was scientific exploration, cultural exchange, intellectual discourse, and joyful experiences. Over the course of six days, every student created their own valuable memories.
SPEIT looks forward to seeing you again soon on the SJTU campus, where you will continue to write your own brilliant new chapter with even more determination!
