Eight SPEIT Students Help Jiaolong Make History, Securing Four Consecutive Championships!

08.12/2025 9

Recently, the National Finals of the 24th National University Student Robot Competition RoboMaster 2025 concluded successfully at the Shenzhen Bay Sports Center. Shanghai Jiao Tong University’s Yunhan Jiaolong Team fought their way through challenges and won the national championship again. Since their first victory in 2021, the Jiaolong Team has continued to dominate the 2023, 2024, and 2025 seasons, becoming the first team in RoboMaster history to claim four consecutive championships.

The Jiaolong Team brings together over 100 robot enthusiasts from various departments and grades of Shanghai Jiao Tong University. In the 2025 season, 51 outstanding members were selected to represent SJTU. Among them, eight are students from the SJTU Paris Elite Institute of Technology (SPEIT):

Arduous Preparation

The road to the top was not smooth. In the 2025 season, the Jiaolong Team faced setbacks in the alliance and regional competitions. In the over 60 days after the regional competition, team members raced against time, tackling technical issues during intensive training. After arriving in Shenzhen, with support from SJTU Shenzhen Research Institute, they wasted no time adapting to the venue conditions and diving into robot maintenance and debugging.

Climactic Finals

On the finals day, SJTU’s Yunhan Jiaolong Team went all out, first defeating China University of Petroleum to advance to the semi-finals. In the semi-finals, they faced their old rival Northeastern University again. After a day of tactical adjustments, the Jiaolong Team beat them 2:0, securing a spot in the finals. In the final match against the University of Science and Technology of China, the Yunhan Jiaolong Team showcased their strong capabilities and won 3:0, claiming the championship title for the fourth time and continuing their legendary legacy.

Voices from SPEIT Participants

“This season, I participated in recruiting and training new members. In daily work and competitions, I witnessed the growth of a new generation of Vision Department members firsthand, and won the championship with them. The championship is both an end and a new start—the legend of the new Vision Department has just begun!”

——Yang Bowen

“From defeat in the regional competition to winning the national championship, this journey was built with sweat and collaboration. I deeply realized that the glory of a young engineer lies not only in technical proficiency but also in sharing responsibilities with the team and turning setbacks into strength.”

——Guan Huai

“I feel fortunate to have witnessed and participated in Jiaolong’s third and fourth consecutive championships. Over two years, I experienced confusion, tasted the sense of achievement from victory, and felt the satisfaction of learning practical skills. Jiaolong, this excellent team, has given me a fulfilling and precious life experience.”

——Jiang Baoxin

“When I saw the robots we debugged operate stably in the competition, the sense of achievement created by the team far surpassed any personal honor. In Jiaolong, I not only learned robot-related knowledge but also how to think, collaborate, and take responsibility like a true engineer.”

——Yang Lehan

Team Introduction

The Yunhan Jiaolong Team was founded under the SJTU Student Innovation Center, with instructors from Leng Chuntao’s Robot Innovation Studio. It is an interdisciplinary, cross-grade student robot team with four functional departments: Mechanical, Electronic Control, Vision, and Operations & Publicity, forming an efficient organizational structure with scientific division of labor and collaborative combat.

The team recruits new members from across the university every autumn and co-hosts on-campus competitions. Through systematic training and practical selection, it identifies outstanding members to represent SJTU in intercollegiate competitions. Through continuous exploration and practice, the team has established a sound system to continuously polish technical capabilities and foster team spirit.

Jiaolong members always uphold the belief that “steady progress every day will eventually bear fruit.” They are committed to translating classroom knowledge into competition practice, pursuing excellence, and have been featured in official media multiple times. This year, the Yunhan Jiaolong Team made history again, becoming the first “four-time champion” in RoboMaster history.

Competition Introduction

The 24th National University Student Robot Competition RoboMaster 2025 is co-hosted by the National University Student Robot Competition Organizing Committee and the Shenzhen Municipal People’s Government, initiated and undertaken by leading tech enterprises such as DJI. It is a global shooting robot competition.

As a shooting robot competition, RoboMaster integrates cutting-edge technologies such as machine vision, embedded system design, mechanical control, autonomous navigation, and human-computer interaction. It emphasizes participants’ comprehensive application of science and engineering knowledge and engineering practice capabilities.

Over the past decade, RoboMaster has collaborated with over 300 university laboratories, held 2,795 matches, supported over 20,000 robot assembly/disassembly R&D projects, and gathered the passion and persistence of nearly 100,000 young engineers. These technical collisions full of sparks have not only nurtured countless engineering dreams but also quietly changed the life trajectories of hundreds of thousands of young people.

The SJTU Paris Elite Institute of Technology has always attached great importance to cultivating students’ technological innovation capabilities and encourages them to actively participate in high-level domestic and international competitions. Through experience sharing, competition training, team guidance, and other initiatives, the institute has created a strong atmosphere for scientific and technological innovation, forming a sound inheritance mechanism and practical tradition.

May more students discover their passion and pursue excellence in scientific and technological innovation practices, hone their skills and stimulate their potential through exchanges of ideas and technologies, and grow into future engineers with outstanding engineering literacy and an international perspective!
