At noon on November 5, 2025, the inauguration ceremony of the Psychological Service Center of the SJTU Paris Elite Institute of Technology (SPEIT) took place in Room 205 of the SPEIT Building at Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
Attending the ceremony were Zhao Xin, Deputy Secretary of the SJTU University Council; Meng Xiangqi, Deputy Director of the Student Affairs Office; Zhang Hongying, Director of the University Psychological Counseling Center; Xiong Zhenhua, Party Secretary of SPEIT; Chen Cailian, Chinese Dean of SPEIT; psychological experts, all class advisers, and student representatives.
Zhao Xin extended congratulations on the establishment of the service center. He emphasized that the creation of this center is an important step toward fulfilling the university’s fundamental educational mission and enhancing the quality of talent cultivation. It holds great significance for nurturing globally competent and well-rounded engineers.
He expressed three expectations for the development of the center:
To align with the university’s integrated student development philosophy that emphasizes both academic and personal growth;
To leverage the academic and disciplinary strengths of SPEIT and give full play to its advantages of proximity, flexibility, and distinctiveness;
To establish a sustainable mechanism that transforms psychological education from problem-oriented intervention to proactive guidance and prevention.
Xiong Zhenhua provided a detailed interpretation of the development plan for the Psychological Service Center, highlighting the vital importance of mental well-being in students’ overall growth.
He explained that the center closely aligns with SPEIT’s international education model and is designed to build a bilingual, cross-cultural psychological support platform. It also explores the integration of values-based education with psychological support, embedding mental health education into the institute’s global talent training process. The center aims to strengthen the foundation for students’ excellence and to support the institute’s broader educational mission.
With all the guests, teachers, and students in attendance, Zhao Xin, Xiong Zhenhua, and Chen Cailian jointly unveiled the nameplate of the new “SPEIT Mind Harbor” Psychological Service Center.
The ceremony continued with an appointment session.
Meng Xiangqi presented certificates of appointment to Zhang Hongying and Zhang Li as psychological mentors; to six part-time psychological counselors including Liu Yeping and Wu Xinyi; and to six representatives of the Mind Ambassadors Group, including Chen Peining and Yu Che.
Student representative Yu Che expressed the great expectations that students hold for the new service center.
As a Mind Ambassador, Yu stated a strong commitment to fulfilling the related responsibilities and demonstrated the proactive and caring attitude of SPEIT students toward personal growth and peer support.
Finally, Dean Chen Cailian remarked that the establishment of the Psychological Service Center is an important initiative reflecting the institute’s care for students’ mental health and its commitment to building a holistic student development system.
She noted that the institute fully recognizes the multiple pressures faced by students in a cross-cultural environment and hopes the service center will serve as a warm and supportive space that nurtures emotional well-being and empowers personal growth.
Looking ahead, the Psychological Service Center will continue to safeguard growth through professionalism and warm hearts through listening, providing solid psychological support for cultivating globally minded, technically skilled, and well-balanced engineers. It will promote the dual enhancement of both educational quality and mental health development within the institute.
