SPEIT Hosts Series of Safety Education and Training Activities

11.20/2025 28

To thoroughly implement SJTU's directives on strengthening safety education for new staff and continuously enhance the laboratory safety awareness and emergency response capabilities of all faculty and students, SJTU Paris Elite Institute of Technology organized a series of safety training activities during the fall semester of 2025, comprehensively advancing laboratory safety training initiatives.

1

Learning first aid skills

To effectively enhance students' self-rescue and mutual aid capabilities, SPEIT organized a specialized emergency first aid training session on October 22. The comprehensive training covered fundamental theories of emergency self-rescue and mutual aid, the full process of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), and the proper use of Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

Throughout the session, students demonstrated exceptional enthusiasm, attentively listening and actively participating. During practical exercises, they progressively practiced identifying cardiac arrest, performing effective chest compressions, administering standardized rescue breathing, and coordinating AED use. This integrated “theory + hands-on” approach enabled students to not only master core emergency care knowledge but also develop proficiency in critical skills through direct experience.

Xiong Zhenhua delivers safety knowledge lecture

On November 5, SPEIT organized the “First Lesson on Laboratory Safety” for 2025 graduate students and 2024 graduate students who had just returned from exchange studies in France. Xiong Zhenhua entered the classroom to teach safety knowledge and get details about their daily laboratory safety practices.

Xiong Zhenhua emphasized three key points in his address. First, as technological advancements and interdisciplinary research deepen, the safety risks in laboratories grow increasingly complex. Students must diligently study safety protocols, enhance their ability to identify and assess hazards, and ensure the smooth progression of both research and academic pursuits. Second, laboratory safety training is not merely about imparting knowledge and skills; it reflects students' responsibility toward themselves, their families, and their research work. Strict adherence to standard operating procedures and the cultivation of safety awareness are essential to minimize experimental risks. Third, students conducting research in laboratories outside their own department must strictly adhere to the behavioral norms and management regulations of the host laboratory and diligently implement personal safety precautions.

Xiong Zhenhua also provided on-site feedback on the students' laboratory safety culture design projects, fully acknowledging their creativity in presenting rigorous safety protocols through vivid and engaging formats, thereby effectively conveying safety culture. He reiterated the importance of internalizing safety knowledge and translating it into action.

Conducting Fire Drills

November 2025 marks the “National Fire Safety Awareness Month,” themed “Fire Safety for All, Life First—Safe Use of Fire and Electricity.” On November 9, we observed the 34th “National Fire Prevention Day.”

To further enhance fire safety awareness among faculty and students and improve emergency response capabilities, SPEIT organized a special fire safety training session at noon on November 13. Suo Cheng, Head of the Fire Safety Section of the Security Office, delivered an informative, engaging, and humorous lecture on fire safety.

During the lecture, Suo Cheng began with the definition and classification of fires. Using typical accident cases as examples, he systematically explained the causes and hazards of fires, the proper use of various firefighting equipment, and key precautions for escaping fire scenes. His presentation was vividly supplemented with video materials. He reminded the participating faculty and students to always adhere to daily fire prevention regulations, remain calm during accidents, effectively enhance fire safety awareness, and improve their ability to handle sudden fire incidents.

During the fire drill, faculty and students proceeded in an orderly manner through the fire evacuation routes to the outdoor drill site. Instructors from the fire safety department provided detailed on-site explanations of fire extinguisher operation techniques and precautions. Under professional guidance, participants took turns handling extinguishers for hands-on practice, gaining firsthand experience in suppressing initial fires and effectively enhancing their practical skills and emergency response capabilities.

Safety precautions are an ongoing journey...

The path to safety is one of steady progress. Every accident serves as a stark reminder that rules form the defense line for personal safety. Every instance of standardized operation demonstrates reverence for life. Every safety training session safeguards scientific research and innovation. Let us join hands to fortify our safety defenses and become guardians for ourselves and our families!
