Engineering and Materials Science Award

Zhong Shengyi, Vice Dean of SPEIT, a dual-appointed professor at the Paris Elite Engineer School and the School of Material Science and Engineering of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, a PhD supervisor, deputy director of the National Key Laboratory of Neutron Science and Technology. She graduated with a bachelor's degree from the School of Materials at Shanghai Jiao Tong University in 2007 and obtained her PhD in nuclear technology from the French Atomic Energy Commission - Paris 11 University (joint training) in 2012.

Her primary research focus is on neutron scattering for materials characterization. She has hosted numerous scientific research projects, including a National Key R&D Program project, three National Natural Science Foundation projects, and over ten other research projects such as the Aviation Science Fund. She leads the independent design and construction of the "He Tu" neutron diffraction engineering stress spectrometer and the "Luo Shu" neutron small-angle scattering spectrometer. She has published 70 SCI journal papers in academic journals such as Acta Materialia and the International Journal of Plasticity, applied for over 13 invention patents, written 3 national standards, and edited 3 undergraduate textbooks. Her systematic innovations at the intersection of neutron technology and materials science established a full-chain solution encompassing “theoretical models-testing techniques-engineering applications,” with direct application in multiple national major projects.

About

Chen Guangming, in collaboration with SJTU, established the “Ruiyuan Science and Technology Award” in 2022 and the “Ruiyuan Young Scientist Award” in 2023. Each award is presented annually across five categories: Mathematics and Physical Sciences, Engineering and Materials Science, Information and Space Technology, Ocean Engineering and Ocean Sciences, and Life and Medical Sciences. These honors recognize outstanding achievements by current SJTU researchers or alumni engaged in science.

The Ruiyuan Young Scientist Award honors outstanding young researchers who have achieved significant scientific discoveries in fundamental research, realized breakthroughs in applied technology, or made pioneering contributions to frontier scientific exploration.

We extend our warmest congratulations to Professor Zhong Shengyi and her team! Representing generations of researchers at SPEIT, they are making significant contributions to the construction of major national scientific and technological infrastructure through their practical actions, embodying the spirit of relentless innovation and pursuit of excellence that defines SPEITers. This award serves as a high recognition of SPEIT's scientific research and innovation capabilities. May it inspire more young scholars and students to scale new heights in science!
