Recently, the finals of the “Dancing SJTU · Vibrant Arts” — the 5th Cultural and Arts Festival Dance Competition for SJTU Faculty — were held at Jingjing Hall on the Minhang campus. The cross-cultural musical performance presented by Chinese and French faculty members of the Sino-French Institute of Engineering and Management (SPEIT), featuring Si j’allais en Chine (“If I Had the Chance to Go to China”) and Charm of Jiangnan, won the second prize.
The performance team was led by French Dean Zied MOUMNI, with artistic direction by Yan Zhang from the Cooperation & Development Office. Twenty-one Chinese and French faculty and staff members from the Mathematics Group, Physics Group, French Language Group, partner French institutions, and administrative teams jointly participated.

Portée par le doyen français Zied MOUMNI et mis en scène par Léana ZHANG du Bureau de coopération et de développement, la performance a réuni 21 participants issus des groupes de FLE, de mathématiques, de physique, des professeurs invités ainsi que des différents services administratifs.
The performance opened with the French song Si j’allais en Chine, performed by Chinese and French teachers. Through a carefully rehearsed choral arrangement, the song depicted China’s magnificent landscapes and cultural imagery, expressing a heartfelt longing for China. As the music concluded, Zied MOUMNI took the stage, addressing the audience in Chinese and stating, “Music knows no borders; art is a bridge.” He then introduced the following dance piece, Charm of Jiangnan, presented by Chinese and French dancers. Their graceful and elegant movements guided the audience into the poetic scenery of Jiangnan. The entire performance seamlessly blended French romantic vitality with the subtlety and emotional depth of classical Chinese aesthetics.
Le spectacle a débuté par le chant « Si j’allais en Chine », interprété par des professeurs français et chinois, qui exprime un profond désir pour la Chine, qui exprime un vif désir pour la Chine et dépeint avec poésie ses vastes paysages et ses riches symboles culturels.
À la fin de la chanson, Zied MOUMNI est monté sur scène, s’exprimant en chinois et soulignant que « la musique n’a pas de frontières et que l’art est un pont », mettant en lumière la profonde signification des échanges culturels. Puis, une danse classique chinoise, toute en grâce et en élégance, a transporté le public dans le Jiangnan, pittoresque et poétique. L’ensemble du spectacle a su fusionner harmonieusement la romance et la vivacité françaises avec la subtilité et l’émotion de la culture classique chinoise, créant une unité parfaite grâce à l’entrelacement de la musique, de la danse et des émotions.
To prepare for the performance, Chinese and French participants spent an entire month rehearsing during their spare time. Through continuous coordination and the final stage presentation, they built deep bonds, strengthened team cohesion, and further deepened Sino-French cultural exchange and mutual learning.
Pour préparer ce spectacle, les participants ont consacré un mois à répéter pendant leurs temps de repos. À travers des ajustements répétés et la représentation finale sur scène, ils n’ont pas seulement développé des liens profonds et une grande complicité, mais ont également approfondi les échanges et le partage sino-français, renforçant ainsi un fort sentiment de cohésion et de fierté collective.
A Hub of Sino-French Cultural Exchange
Since the beginning of this semester, SPEIT has welcomed 10 new French staff members, 13 visiting French professors, and 26 French students. The Cooperation & Development Office has organized a variety of activities — an autumn trip to Hanxiang Water Park, a Sino-French tea-tasting event, an interactive “Chinese through cuisine” workshop, and the “Mutual Perspectives” lecture series — to help French teachers and students integrate into their new environment and to promote Sino-French exchange.
Depuis ce semestre, SPEIT a accueilli plus de 10 nouveaux professeurs et staffs français, 13 professeurs invités ainsi que 26 étudiants internationaux.
Cet événement couronne une saison riche en activités culturelles organisées par le Bureau de coopération et de développement, telles qu’une excursion au parc Han Xiang, une dégustation de thé ou encore un atelier interactif de langue et gastronomie chinoises. Autant d’occasions qui ont été offertes aux communautés chinoise et internationale de se rencontrer et d’échanger.
French participants shared that these activities enabled them to better appreciate the richness and diversity of Chinese culture. In their view, multiculturalism is not merely the coexistence or compromise of different cultures, but a process of staying rooted in one’s own culture while understanding and embracing others. These Sino-French cultural events act as bridges, fostering mutual understanding and strengthening emotional and collaborative ties.
Les Français ont souligné combien ces initiatives leur ont permis d’approfondir leur connaissance de la culture chinoise, dans sa diversité et sa profondeur. Pour eux, le multiculturalisme ne se résume pas à une simple coexistence, mais procède d’une démarche active : s’enraciner dans sa propre culture tout en apprenant à comprendre l’autre et à accueillir la différence. Les activités culturelles sino-françaises servent ainsi de passerelles, rapprochent les personnes, font grandir la compréhension mutuelle et donnent corps à l’idéal d’une harmonie universelle dans le respect des différences.
