On the evening of December 17, the final evaluation meeting of the 15th “KAIYUAN” Top Ten Teachers of Shanghai Jiao Tong University was held in the A100 Auditorium of the Student Center. After rounds including open-class demonstrations, student questioning, and voting by student representatives, Hamza BOUKILI, a mathematics teacher from the SPEIT, was awarded the title of the 15th “KAIYUAN” Top Ten Teacher.
“KAIYUAN” Top Ten Teacher
Hamza BOUKILI, also known by his Chinese name Bo Hanzheng, is a “New Shanghainese” holding a Chinese Permanent Residence ID card and a PhD in Applied Mathematics. Since 2020, he has been teaching at the SPEIT as a mathematics instructor, delivering courses such as Advanced Mathematics. In his teaching practice, he has deeply explored the integration of AI algorithms and optimization techniques, guided students in scientific research in the energy sector, and transformed entrepreneurial practice into instructional resources. He has successively received the First Prize of the 2024 SJTU Teaching Achievement Award and the Second Prize of the 2025 SJTU Teaching Achievement Award.
In 2024, with the support of the Institute, Hamza BOUKILI and his partners launched an innovative entrepreneurship project titled “AI + Energy Conservation and Emission Reduction”, dedicated to applying artificial intelligence technologies to green and low-carbon scenarios and contributing to the realization of China’s carbon neutrality goals. On the morning of April 29, 2025, during an inspection tour in Shanghai, President Xi Jinping visited the “Model-Speed Space” large-model innovation ecosystem community located in Xuhui District. Hamza BOUKILI stood out as the only foreign face present on site, demonstrating his representativeness and influence in the field of AI entrepreneurship.
In addition, Hamza BOUKILI actively participates in various on-campus and off-campus activities and has achieved outstanding results. He won the Second Prize in the “My Global SJTU” speech competition, finished runner-up in the “December 9th” campus long-distance running event, performed in the Institute’s original red-themed stage play Le Flambeau Vivant, and was invited to participate in the Xuhui District “Hui Lecture Forum,” among others. Through these activities, he shares “Chinese stories” as seen through foreign perspectives and demonstrates the positive image and exemplary role of a young international faculty member through concrete actions.

The “KAIYUAN” Top Ten Teacher selection is jointly guided by the Student Affairs Steering Committee of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, the Youth League Committee of SJTU, the Graduate School, the Academic Affairs Office, the Committee Teacher Affairs Department, and the Education Development Foundation, and is specifically organized by the SJTU Graduate Student Union.
