As the end of the year approaches, looking back on our Institute’s work with international students over the past year reveals a new beginning and fruitful achievements. With the coordinated efforts of all departments, the Institute has remained firmly focused on its core objectives: expanding international student recruitment, deepening intercultural exchange, and enhancing international influence, steadily advancing all work related to international students. A series of remarkable outcomes has not only added a vivid stroke to the Institute’s international development blueprint, but also enabled diverse cultures to interact, integrate, and flourish on our campus.
Breakthroughs in student recruitment, significantly enhancing campus diversity
In 2025, the Institute achieved notable results in international student recruitment, successfully welcoming 45 new international students, including degree students, exchange students, and interns. The arrival of these international students has not only strengthened the international student cohort but also enriched the campus cultural ecosystem, building solid interpersonal bridges for intercultural exchange.
At the same time, distinctive programs were steadily advanced, achieving both educational and impact outcomes. The Institute successfully organized three sessions of summer schools, further optimizing course design and activity arrangements on the basis of previous high-quality teaching resources. These programs provided international students with immersive learning and experiential platforms and received widespread positive feedback.
Throughout the year, the Institute welcomed 370 short-term visiting students and hosted over 50 visiting professors and staff members from overseas partner institutions. Among them, presidents and heads of international offices from French partner institutions visited the Institute on multiple occasions to care for and meet with dual-degree and exchange students studying at SPEIT. These visits not only strengthened interaction with overseas institutions but also effectively broadened the international perspectives of both international students and local faculty and students.
Cultural integration and multi-dimensional communication: Continuous enhancement of international influence
As a core carrier of SJTU’s Sino-French cooperation feature, the Institute team carefully planned and organized more than 20 Sino-French cultural exchange activities. These activities covered diverse formats including academic seminars, cultural performances, themed salons, and sports events, effectively building platforms for in-depth interaction between Chinese and French faculty and students, fostering emotional connections and cultural identification, and enabling mutual learning and coexistence of cultures through equal exchange.
Relying on a matrix of mainstream domestic and international social media platforms, the Institute published over 50 communication articles in 2025, telling the SPEIT story through multiple channels and perspectives, further expanding the Institute’s international influence.

Refined management ensuring quality and efficiency in exchange and cooperation
In the management of international students, the Institute team implemented refined services throughout the entire process, making every effort to ensure smooth enrollment for international students. To help international students quickly adapt to campus life, the team carefully organizes welcome activities at the beginning of each semester, providing comprehensive explanations on academic requirements, living support, psychological services, and other aspects, building the “first bridge” for students to integrate into campus life.
The Institute also compiled a dedicated International Student Survival Guide, offering clear and detailed information for international students and overseas partner institutions, effectively enhancing the Institute’s visibility and recognition abroad.
It is particularly noteworthy that the Institute places great emphasis on the daily life and psychological well-being of international students. Through frequent proactive communication and human-centered care, the team provides sincere companionship, enabling international students to truly feel the warmth of the campus and laying asolid emotional foundation for deeper intercultural exchange.
