SPEIT “Descartes Class” Student Forum Successfully Held

04.04/2026 30

To gain a deeper understanding of how students in the “Descartes Class” are adapting to their studies and campus life, and to continuously optimize SPEIT’s program for cultivating top-tier innovative talent, SJTU Paris Elite Institute of Technology held a student forum for the “Descartes Class” on March 26. Chen Cailian, Lu Jialiang, Li Junyan, Qi Guifang, Liu Jing, and other faculty and staff representatives attended the meeting to engage in in-depth discussions with all students of the “Descartes Class.”

The atmosphere at the forum was lively. Drawing on their experiences and reflections since enrollment, students actively shared their views on topics such as French language learning methods, curriculum design and transition, teaching arrangements across different disciplines, and personalized student development. In response to the concerns and suggestions raised by the students, the attending leaders and faculty members provided detailed and thoughtful responses to each point.

Chen Cailian encouraged everyone to strengthen their independent learning outside the classroom, noting that this is particularly valuable in an era of rapid advancements in AI technology. She encouraged students to focus on building a solid internal knowledge framework, explore uncharted territories, and discover a research direction they are truly passionate about.

Lu Jialiang encouraged students to set their sights on excellence, to deepen their foundational knowledge in mathematics and physics while maintaining an open mindset, to dare to push beyond their limits and confront challenges head-on, and to strive to become outstanding talents with global competence.

To better support the development of “Descartes Class” students and cultivate their academic interests, it was officially announced at the meeting that Chen Cailian would serve as the academic advisor for the “Descartes Class,” guiding students to discover their passions and accompanying them throughout their university life.

This September, SPEIT will organize a three-week study tour for “Descartes Class” students to French preparatory schools, top engineering institutions, and renowned research organizations. The program aims to solidify students’ academic foundations and comprehensively enhance their language proficiency and cross-cultural literacy.

This forum served as a bridge for in-depth dialogue between faculty and students, fully demonstrating SPEIT’s high regard and dedicated care for the growth of the “Descartes Class” students. We look forward to seeing the students of the “Descartes Class” build a solid academic foundation and broaden their international horizons on SPEIT’s international platform, striving to grow into innovative talents capable of adapting to the development of the new era.
