All fourth-year undergraduate students attended the event. Also present were Xiong Zhenhua, Secretary of SPEIT; Lü Jiangying, Vice Secretary of SPEIT; Li Junyan, Director of the Office of Academic Affairs; Liu Jing, Director of the Student Affairs Office; and Fu Yaning. The ceremony was hosted by Liu Jing.

At the beginning of the event, Liu Jing introduced the theme and agenda of the ceremony, encouraging students to take this opportunity to further strengthen their ideals and convictions, clarify their future goals, and embark on the next stage of their academic and personal journeys with confidence and determination.

Xiong Zhenhua then delivered a keynote speech entitled "Rooted in China, Reaching the Frontiers of Global Innovation." He emphasized that, as an important component of Shanghai Jiao Tong University's "Global SJTU" strategy, SPEIT has consistently upheld its distinctive Sino-French educational model while actively exploring internationally influential approaches to engineering education. The institute remains committed to cultivating outstanding engineers equipped with both a strong sense of national responsibility and global competence.

Drawing upon SPEIT's “15th Five-Year Development Plan”, Xiong outlined the institute's strategic objectives and key initiatives for the coming years. He noted that SPEIT will continue striving to become a world-class international engineering school by deepening educational reform, advancing the development of the Descartes Class, strengthening university-industry collaboration, and launching the interdisciplinary minor program "AI + Industrial Software." These initiatives aim to further enhance students' international competitiveness, innovative thinking, and practical capabilities.

He also encouraged students to embrace the opportunities brought by the era of artificial intelligence, continuously develop their ability to solve complex problems, pursue lifelong learning, and collaborate across cultures, thereby contributing to scientific and technological innovation as well as national development.

As the students prepared to begin a new chapter in their lives, Xiong encouraged them to uphold the values of SJTU and make full use of the unique strengths gained through Sino-French education. He called on them to approach global challenges from a Chinese perspective and to share the stories of SPEIT, SJTU, and China on the international stage.

During the discussion session, students were divided into six groups to discuss SPEIT's 15th Five-Year Development Plan. Centering on topics including talent cultivation, international cooperation, scientific research, career support, and alumni network development, they actively shared suggestions based on their academic experiences and future aspirations etc. Representatives from each group later presented their conclusions, contributing the perspectives and wisdom of the younger generation to the institute's future development planning.

At the end of the event, a Party member ceremonial education session and an appointment ceremony for class council members were held. Xiong Zhenhua presented Party badges to the undergraduate graduate Party members of the Class of 2026. He encouraged them to keep their identity as Party members firmly in mind, strengthen their ideals and convictions, bravely shoulder the missions of the times, and give full play to their vanguard and exemplary role in their future studies, work and daily lives.

Finally, Xiong Zhenhua and Lü Jiangying presented certificates of appointment to the class and cohort representatives of the 2026 graduating class. They expressed the hope that these student representatives would continue serving as bridges between alumni and the institute while contributing to the long-term development of both their graduating class and SPEIT.

As the students prepare to embark on a new stage of their journey, SPEIT extends its heartfelt best wishes to every graduate. May they carry forward the guidance of their teachers with firm ideals, solid professional competence, and an open global outlook, contribute to national development strategies and global scientific and technological innovation, and write their own remarkable chapter as members of the SPEIT community.
