07.20/2026 22

SJTU·SPEIT

On July 5, SJTU Paris Elite Institute of Technology (SPEIT) jointly organized an alumni exchange event with the Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) Beijing Alumni Association. Representatives from the SJTU Beijing Alumni Association, SPEIT alumni based in Beijing, faculty members of SPEIT, and current students gathered to discuss topics including alumni resource collaboration, talent cultivation, and career development. The event strengthened alumni connections and provided an opportunity to exchange ideas on the future development of SPEIT.

The event was attended by Tang Shulong, Vice President of the SJTU Beijing Alumni Association and alumnus of the School of Materials Science and Engineering (Class of 1992); Wang Jing, Deputy Secretary-General of the Association and alumna of the School of Agriculture and Biology (Class of 2009); He Tiening, Council Member of the Association and alumnus of the School of Mechanical Engineering (Class of 1992); and Liu Tianxiong, Council Member of the Association and alumnus of the School of Mechanical Engineering (Class of 2002).

Several SPEIT alumni working in Beijing also participated in the event. Yang Mingming, Career Development Advisor of SPEIT, Zhao Yiyan, Academic Affairs Secretary, as well as representatives of current students, also attended the event.

Bridging generations and disciplines through shared experiences and insights

The atmosphere of the event was warm and engaging. Alumni from different generations gathered together to exchange perspectives and share experiences. Senior alumni introduced their personal journeys and offered valuable advice to students.

Tang Shulong introduced the development of the SJTU Beijing Alumni Association and its alumni networking initiatives. Drawing on his own experience studying at Minhang Campus, he encouraged students to carry forward the spirit of SJTU. Wang Jing shared the Association’s experience in providing support for career development, facilitating industry exchanges, and organizing alumni networking activities. She welcomed more SPEIT alumni to participate in the development of this platform. Drawing on his understanding of industrial development trends, He Tiening encouraged students to pay attention to changes in industries, strengthen their practical abilities, and align their personal development with the needs of strategically important sectors. Liu Tianxiong encouraged students to uphold SJTU’s excellent academic tradition, consolidate their professional foundations, and maintain a healthy balance between academic pursuits, rest, and personal well-being.

During the discussions, senior alumni and young SPEIT graduates engaged in in-depth conversations on industry trends, career planning, and long-term development. These intergenerational and interdisciplinary exchanges enabled participants to share experiences and inspire one another.

From SPEIT to the professional world: young alumni share their experiences

Young SPEIT alumni also shared their experiences transitioning from university life to professional careers and research. They reflected on their choices after graduation and their career development paths, while discussing how they adapted to new working environments and transformed academic knowledge into practical professional skills after entering the workplace. These firsthand experiences provided current students with valuable references that closely reflect today’s employment landscape.

During the event, Yang Mingming noted that SPEIT is a young and dynamic institute currently preparing to establish its own alumni association. She expressed the hope that this event would serve as an opportunity to further strengthen connections with the SJTU Beijing Alumni Association and SPEIT alumni in Beijing, promoting closer collaboration between alumni resources, talent cultivation, and career guidance.

This event established an exchange platform connecting senior alumni, young SPEIT graduates, and current students. It not only highlighted the important role of the SJTU Beijing Alumni Association in resource networking and experience sharing, but also provided SPEIT alumni with more opportunities to share their journeys and contribute to the development of the Institute. It further strengthened the foundation of cooperation between SPEIT and its alumni community in Beijing.

In the future, SPEIT will continue to strengthen collaboration with SJTU alumni organizations across different regions and with its own alumni, gradually improve its alumni engagement and service mechanisms, and bring together the experiences and resources of alumni from diverse fields and generations to better support alumni career development, student growth, and the cultivation of outstanding engineering talents.
