On September 2, the commissioning ceremony for the “Luoshu” Ultra-Long-Range Small-Angle Neutron Scattering Spectrometer of Shanghai Jiao Tong University was held at the Mianyang Research Reactor in China. Yang Zhenbin, Secretary of SJTU, Huang Ming, Deputy Director of the China Academy of Engineering Physics (CAEP), and other officials attended the event, jointly witnessing the official commissioning of this major scientific facility.
At the ceremony, Yang Zhenbin and Huang Ming jointly illuminated the “Luoshu” spectrometer, marking its official commissioning. Jointly developed by Shanghai Jiao Tong University and the Mianyang Research Reactor in China, the “Luoshu” spectrometer was developed through coordinated research and development efforts. Several of its key technical specifications have reached internationally advanced levels. It will provide high-level research support in a wide range of fields, including aeronautics and aerospace, nuclear energy, biomedicine, advanced materials, and fundamental sciences, supporting cutting-edge scientific exploration, breakthroughs in key technologies, and the development of innovative talent.
The commissioning of the “Luoshu” spectrometer marks an important outcome of the two sides’ efforts to further deepen their strategic cooperation. Looking ahead, the two sides will continue to bring together their respective research strengths, strengthen the joint development of advanced neutron science platforms, enhance scientific collaboration and joint talent development, and promote the achievement of more high-level original research results in neutron science and technology. Through these efforts, they will contribute to addressing major national strategic needs and strengthening China’s high-level scientific and technological self-reliance and strength.

Her main research area is neutron scattering-based materials characterization. She has led more than 20 research projects, including a frontier research project on major scientific facilities under the 14th Five-Year Plan National Key Research and Development Program, as well as projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China.
She led the independent design and construction of SJTU’s neutron diffraction engineering stress diffractometer “Hetu” and small-angle neutron scattering spectrometer “Luoshu.” She has developed quantitative, nondestructive neutron-scattering characterization techniques for residual stresses, textures, and micro- and nanostructures in complex engineering components. These research outcomes have been directly applied to several major national projects.
She has published more than 70 high-level academic papers, holds 16 granted invention patents, contributed to the drafting of three national standards, and served as editor-in-chief of three undergraduate textbooks.
