Final Call for Papers|De la linguistique à la didactique des langues

05.10/2024 1337

International Conference

organized by

the Research team PLIDAM,

INALCO, Paris, France

&

SJTU Paris Elite Institute of Technology, China

Dates: January 23-24, 2025

Location: INALCO, Paris, France

The actors in language and culture teaching and learning, both native and foreign, traditionally fall under the umbrella of "language sciences." However, the field of didactics, organized around language facts to be transmitted in the classroom, is not strictly synonymous with linguistics (the study of language functioning).

In teacher training at universities, linguistics stands out as a supporting discipline (alongside literature and, where applicable, translation training). However, once in the classroom—a social setting where scientific reflection meets pedagogical action regarding L2 (second language)—language teachers, especially novices, grapple with various linguistic theories, products of transposition (grammars, dictionaries, traditional and digital learning materials), and their daily activities to plan the transmission of linguistic knowledge in L2 classes.

Conference Themes

Within this framework, a series of questions arise:

· How to integrate linguistics and pedagogical practice in the presentation, structuring, and consolidation of language facts?

· What is the best way to combine mastery of theoretical concepts with the demands of the classroom situation?

· Should theoretical works be "imported" into the smooth and reassuring discourse of the language class?

· What terminology should be adopted to shed light on language facts, leaving no doubt about the choice of appropriate forms?

· Can we simultaneously "ensure" form (structure) and meaning (communication)?

· What manipulation techniques should be considered in line with the necessary technicality of linguistic approaches?

Submission Guidelines

Communication proposals (planned for a 20minute presentation + 10minute Q&A) should be sent with the title and abstract (maximum 250 words and 5 keywords), along with a brief author bio (position, institutional affiliation, email address, telephone) to the organizers.

The languages of the Conference are French and English. Publication of a selection of communications is planned.
