To deepen educational reform and implement the work requirements of Shanghai Jiao Tong University on the deep integration of artificial intelligence and higher education, the SJTU Paris Institute of Technology held a symposium on the theme of "Generative AI and Educational Reform Practice" on November 8th. The event invited Professor Huan Changpeng from the School of Foreign Languages at SJTU and Yu Jianbo, the person in charge of course construction at the Academic Affairs Office, as guest speakers. Zied MOUMNI, the French Dean, and Lu Jialiang, the Vice Dean of the SJTU Paris Institute of Technology, attended, with nearly thirty Chinese and French faculty and administrative staff participating in the exchange.

The symposium was chaired by Vice Dean Lu Jialiang. He first extended a warm welcome to the two guest speakers and then emphasized the significance of the symposium. He pointed out that with the rapid development of science and technology, AI is becoming a key factor in driving educational change. It has not only changed the way information is obtained and data is processed but also brought revolutionary challenges to teaching models, content, and assessment systems. To build a platform for Chinese and foreign teachers to learn AI skills and discuss the integration of AI with teaching, the institute specially organized this symposium conducted in Chinese, English, and French. It is hoped that teachers from different countries will collide with more inspiration and sparks from different perspectives, join hands to enhance the experience of "learning at SJTU", and contribute to the cultivation of high-quality international talents in the new era.

Prof. Huan Changpeng delivered an excellent report titled "AI Empowerment in Foreign Language Education: Challenges and Solutions". Starting from the challenges faced by current university English education, Professor Huan deeply analyzed the main problems in current foreign language teaching and proposed AI-based solutions. He demonstrated the specific applications of AI in foreign language teaching through multiple cases, such as personalized learning path planning, oral language learning, and automatic writing correction. He stated that these applications greatly enriched teaching methods and improved teaching efficiency and effectiveness.

Mr. Yu Jianbo delivered an excellent report titled "How to Connect with AI and Communicate with It ". Teacher Yu introduced the university's initiatives in promoting AI course construction and the construction of the Shanghai Jiao Tong University AI Hub, and compared AI learning resources with those of the MIT in the United States. He also demonstrated on-site efficient communication methods, questioning skills, and intelligent entity creation with commonly used AI tools such as ChatGPT, KIMI, and Google search. Associate Professor Yuan Yijia from the physics group of the institute provided simultaneous translation in French.

After the reports, the attending teachers and guest speakers engaged in an in-depth and heated discussion on the topic of "How to integrate AI more effectively into educational reform". The teachers raised several practical issues about the application of AI in the field of education, such as how AI can be combined with personalized learning, interdisciplinary teaching, and intelligent assessment, and how to guide students to correctly understand and use AI. The two guest speakers provided in-depth and detailed answers based on practical cases.

At present, Shanghai Jiao Tong University has conducted in-depth exploration and practice in curriculum reform, professional construction, and educational teaching models under the "AI+HI" framework. The holding of this symposium has reached a consensus among Chinese and foreign teachers of the SJTU Paris Institute of Technology on the deep integration of artificial intelligence and higher education. It provides ideas and references for Chinese and foreign teachers to deeply explore "AI+HI" engineering education under the background of internationalized school operation, and lays the foundation for cultivating high-quality international talents adapted to the needs of Chinese-style modernization construction.
