On the afternoon of December 11, the " 'By the Water's Edge' Shanghai University Tour" event was successfully held at Shanghai Jiao Tong University. The event was hosted by the Publicity Department of the Party Committee of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and organized by the SPEIT. Deputy Director of the Party Committee's Publicity Department Pan Haozhi, French Dean of the SPEIT Zied MOUMNI, Deputy Secretary Yao Xue, and Chief Editor of The Paper's Research Institute Li Lin attended the event. The activity attracted nearly 80 Chinese and international teachers and students to appreciate the unique humanistic stories on both banks of the Suzhou River and the Seine.

At the beginning of the event, Zied MOUMNI, the French Dean, delivered the opening speech. He warmly welcomed the guests from The Paper and the Publicity Department, and pointed out that the SJTU Paris Elite Institute of Technology, as a model of Sino-French cooperation, is a testament to the long-term friendly exchanges between China and France. He mentioned that on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and France, the documentary will connect the emotions and memories of the two peoples, allowing them to transcend regional and cultural differences to explore common humanistic sentiments and spiritual pursuits. He hoped that teachers and students would step out of their daily frameworks to experience the nourishment of art and culture, and enhance their understanding of the cultural heritage of China and France.

Li Lin shared the original intention and filming process of the documentary. She said that the "By the Water's Edge" series of short documentaries is an important outcome, focusing on the stories of "people by the water" of the Suzhou River and the Seine, crossing nationalities, languages, and cultures, showing people's common aspirations and diverse pursuits for a better life. The documentary reflects Sino-French co-creation from planning to content, with shooting and production spanning multiple locations in China and France, and the production team is jointly formed by Chinese and French teams.

Before the screening, representatives from The Paper and teachers from the Publicity Department, led by Yao Xue, visited the "Century of Studying in France" corridor at the Paris Institute of Technology. Student guides from the "Red Light" group vividly narrated the profound history of cooperation between China and France in the fields of education and culture, adding a deep humanistic background to the event.

After the screening, Zied MOUMNI, visiting teacher and former coordinator of the mathematics group Alain CHILLES, and several students from the SPEIT, the School of Media, Communication and Design, the School of Mechanical and Power Engineering, and the Medical School shared their views on "using water as a medium" and expressed expectations for future Sino-foreign humanistic cooperation.

This screening event, through the medium of images, at the important juncture of the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and France, deepened the teachers and students' understanding of the cultural significance behind the Suzhou River and the Seine, inspiring new thoughts on the relationship between rivers, cities, and humanities.
