

Warmly Inviting Talented Young Scholars to Apply for the Overseas Excellent Young Scientists Project (Additional Batch) through SJTU Paris Elite Institute of Technology

To further improve the talent funding system of science funds, give full play to the role of science funds in introducing and cultivating talents, and attract more outstanding overseas young talents to work in China, the National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC) has launched the application for the 2025 additional batch of Excellent Young Scientists Fund Project (Overseas).
Project Positioning
The Excellent Young Scientists Fund Project (Overseas) aims to attract and encourage outstanding overseas young scholars (including non-Chinese foreign talents) who have achieved good results in natural sciences, engineering technology, etc., to work in China, independently choose research directions to carry out innovative research, and cultivate a group of outstanding academic backbones who are expected to enter the world's scientific and technological frontier.
Applicant Eligibility
1. Applicants for the Excellent Young Scientists Fund Project (Overseas) must meet the following conditions:
(1) Abide by the laws and regulations of the People's Republic of China, have good scientific ethics, and consciously practice the spirit of scientists;
(2) Born on or after January 1, 1985;
(3) Hold a doctoral degree;
(4) Research directions are mainly in natural sciences, engineering technology, etc.;
(5) After obtaining a doctoral degree and before September 15, 2025, generally, they should have obtained formal teaching or research positions in well-known overseas universities, research institutions, enterprise R&D institutions, etc., with continuous working experience of more than 36 months; Those who obtained a doctoral degree overseas and have particularly outstanding achievements may have their work experience requirements appropriately relaxed (not applicable to those who obtained an overseas doctoral degree through Sino-foreign joint training).
During the overseas work period, for applicants who also hold paid positions in China, the working years of their paid positions in China shall not be counted into the overseas working years.
(6) Have obtained scientific research or technological achievements recognized by peer experts, and have the potential to become academic leaders or outstanding talents in the field;
(7) The applicant has not yet worked in China full-time, or has started working in China after January 1, 2024. After receiving the funding notice, they must resign from overseas work and work in China full-time for no less than 3 years.
2. Restrictions on Applications
Relevant requirements for the co-ordination of national science and technology talent programs shall be implemented. Only one national science and technology talent program at the same level can be undertaken, and applications at a lower level are not allowed.
For applicants who have applied for the first half of 2025 Excellent Young Scientists Fund Project (Overseas) but did not meet the application conditions at that time due to time constraints but meet the conditions for the additional batch, they can apply for the additional batch project; other applicants are not allowed to submit duplicate applications in the additional batch.
Those who have applied for other national science and technology talent programs at the same level in 2025 are not allowed to apply for the Excellent Young Scientists Fund Project (Overseas) in the additional batch.
Support Policies
Recipients of the Excellent Young Scientists Fund Project (Overseas) will receive state-funded support of 1-3 million yuan for 3 years. In addition, they will enjoy the following support from the university and the institute:
Remuneration
A competitive annual salary will be provided, and in addition, various incentive performances from the university and the institute can be enjoyed in accordance with policies, with no upper limit. For particularly outstanding talents, the remuneration can be discussed on a case-by-case basis.
Research Support
Sufficient research start-up funds; office and laboratory space support in the newly built Sino-French Building.
Student Quota Support
Priority guarantee of doctoral student quotas; guarantee of 3 master's student quotas every year (100% of the institute's students are high-quality students from SJTU's integrated undergraduate-master program).
Living Support
Provide career establishment and eligibility for household registration in Shanghai. Relying on SJTU's affiliated hospitals and schools to provide high-quality medical services and children's education resources.
Other Policy Support
Applicants for the Overseas Excellent Young Scientists Project can simultaneously apply for various talent programs in Shanghai, and multiple benefits can be added after being selected. The university and the institute will provide full-process services and guarantees from policy consultation, application preparation, entry registration, and implementation of benefits, and organize experts to provide full-process and full-chain guidance for applicants to improve the success rate of applications.

Institute Profile
SJTU Paris Elite Institute of Technology (SPEIT) was established in 2012, jointly founded by Shanghai Jiao Tong University and France's top universities—Institut Polytechnique de Paris (IP Paris) and Paris Sciences et Lettres University (PSL). Over the past decade, the institute has carried out close cooperation and exchanges with French partner schools in teaching, scientific research, student exchanges, industrial incubation, etc. The institute offers majors in Mechanical Engineering, Information Engineering, and Energy and Power Engineering, relying on the strong mathematical and physical foundation of French engineering education to carry out interdisciplinary innovative research.

Hardware Facilities

In 2023, the institute's new laboratory building was completed and put into use, with a total construction area of 4,230 square meters, creating favorable conditions for enhancing scientific research cooperation and interdisciplinary integration.

Now, the new Sino-French Building has started construction, with a total construction area of 7,500 square meters, which will further consolidate the institute's hardware and software teaching foundation and strengthen the construction of research platforms.
